Job Description

Church at Cane Bay is seeking a passionate, relational, and theologically grounded individual to serve as our Community & Missions Pastor. This role is pivotal in connecting our congregation internally to foster genuine community and externally to fulfill the Great Commission through local and global missions. The ideal candidate will work alongside our Vision Pastor, Staff, Elders, and Partners to be a catalyst for spiritual growth, service, and outreach, helping us live out our mission of ensuring every man, woman and child is given multiple opportunities to see, hear, and respond to the Gospel.

About Church at Cane Bay
Church at Cane Bay is a young, growing church in the suburban Charleston, SC area. We started in 2011 in a local elementary school and moved into our building in 2017. We currently have 2 Sunday services with approximately 400-500 people in attendance. The lifeblood of our church is “missional communities” which are small groups of people who meet weekly to build community and continually serve a specific need in our community. Our church is less interested in church growth and more interested in kingdom growth. We are committed to serving our community, partnering with other churches/organizations, multiplying disciples, and planting new churches.

General Staff Expectations
You will relate with all other staff as a united team and be expected to serve and support other ministry areas as well as be open to other staff speaking into your ministry areas.
You will participate in weekly staff meetings and leadership environments.
You will hold a monthly one-on-one meeting and annual evaluation with your supervisor.
You will commit to the expectations of church partners outlined in the Partner Covenant.
You (and your spouse) will actively participate in the normal environments of the church (Sunday services, missional community, huddles, and regular gatherings/events)
Create and maintain boundaries in relationships that help protect you, your family, and the church.

Key Responsibilities
1. Connections and Missional Communities (55%)
Missional Communities: Oversee, develop, and grow the church’s group ministry (Missional Communities). This includes curriculum selection or development, leader recruitment, training, coaching, and ensuring effective assimilation of new members into groups.
Partner Care & Connections: Work with the Vision Pastor, Elders, and staff to ensure Partners are cared for and connected. Develop clear pathways for attendees to move from visitors to committed partners.
Discipleship: Work with the Discipleship Pastor to assist in the Development and implementation of discipleship programs and resources that help individuals mature in their faith and effectively utilize their spiritual gifts.
Community Events: Work with staff and volunteers to plan and execute events that foster connection within Cane Bay and surrounding communities for the purpose of sharing the Gospel.
2. Local & Global Missions (25%)
Local Partnerships: Identify, establish, and maintain partnerships with local schools, non-profits, businesses, and organizations to provide opportunities for the congregation to serve Cane Bay and surrounding communities.
Global Missions Strategy: Oversee and strengthen the church’s involvement in gospel-centered global missions, including the selection of missionaries and ministries.
Local and Global Missionary Support: Develop and maintain a support program that provides care and assistance to our Local and Global Missionaries.
Short-Term Missions: Plan, organize, and lead short-term mission trips, managing logistics, participant training, and ensuring that trips align with strategic goals and partner needs.
Missions Education: Regularly communicate God’s heart for all peoples, as well as the stories and needs of local and global mission partners, to encourage the congregation to participate through service and giving.
Missions Budget Oversight: Manage the church’s missions budget, ensuring financial stewardship and accountability in all missions giving.
3. Church Operations (10%)
Administration Oversight: Provide oversight and assistance to the administration team in support of the successful execution of Bookkeeping, Accounting, Payroll, Taxes, and Banking.
Crisis Assistance: Plan and Organize a Crisis assistance program, to include referrals, policies, and partnerships.4. Teaching (10%)
Sunday Morning Teaching Team: Be a consistent voice on our Sunday morning teaching team, alongside our Vision Pastor, staff, elders, and other partners.

Qualifications & Characteristics
Calling & Character: A clear calling to ministry and a life that exhibits the character qualities of an Elder as outlined in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1.

Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university is required; a Master’s degree (M.Div. or equivalent) from an evangelical seminary is preferred.

Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience in a pastoral or similar leadership role, with demonstrated success in developing community and/or missions initiatives.

Theological Alignment: Full agreement with the Church at Cane Bay’s Mission Statement and Constitution and By Laws.

Skill Set:
Strong relational skills with the ability to build rapport quickly with diverse groups of people.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to teach and preach effectively.
Proven organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, budgets, and volunteers simultaneously.
