All UNSUPERVISED volunteers are REQUIRED to complete a criminal background check annually.

An UNSUPERVISED volunteer is someone who works with student(s) without direct supervision of District staff, on or off school grounds, volunteers who act as drives, and volunteers who act as overnight student trip chaperones. (Policy/Regulation IJOC/R)

Those who occasionally visit their child's classroom, eat lunch at their school with their child, and do not assist in instruction or independent supervision of other students are NOT considered unsupervised volunteers under this policy.

Steps for Completing the Criminal Background Check

If you have only lived in South Dakota:

Your background check is completed online at no cost. To complete this, click \"Apply for this job!\" and complete the online application.

If you have lived outside of South Dakota in the past 7 years:

You must undergo an FBI fingerprint screening at the Instructional Planning Center (201 E 38th St, Sioux Falls, SD 57105) in addition to the online background check. You are responsible for the $43.25* fee at the time of fingerprinting. This is a one-time cost and does not need to be repeated annually.

*I mportant Note: Starting October 1, 2025 , the Department of Criminal Investigation Identification Section is increasing the fingerprint-based background check fee to $50.00.

All City Elementary - Parent/Guardian Volunteer Commitment

If you are completing this background check as part of your mandatory volunteer requirement for All City Elementary and have lived outside of South Dakota in the past 7 years, you will not be responsible for the fingerprint screening fee. The District will cover this cost for volunteers fulfilling their commitment at All City Elementary.
