Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Stepdown Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Days Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: 1 year of experience with cardiac and vascular patient population Description: Department supports patients who require intermediate care and downgraded critical care. The unit heavily focuses on thoracic cases and cardiac-related diagnoses. Common diagnoses include CVAs, CHF, A fib RVR, and other cardiac conditions. There is a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4 or 1:3 for post-surgical patients within the first 24 hours. Registered Nurses are required to titrate drips. Common titratable and set rate drips include Amiodarone, Nitro, Nicardipine, Epinephrine, and Cardizem. A charge nurse is present on each shift. The charge nurse rarely takes an assignment. Patient care technicians are available with a ratio of 1:18. Hospitalists and intensivists are in-house 24/7. Respiratory therapy is available in the unit at all times. Remote telemetry technicians handle monitoring, but RNs must read and interpret their own strips. The schedule is managed by the unit manager with no self-scheduling option. Weekend work is required every other week. Floating to same level and lower acuity units is required. The dress code is navy blue scrubs. Requests for time off must be provided upfront, with limited approval for additional requests. Shifts and scheduling are from 0630-1900 and 1830-0700. Nurse orientation will be tailored to needs based on experience.
