Provide individual and small group tutoring to students in the Tutoring Center and other various locations around campus as needed. Assist students in improving academic achievement by meeting with them on a regular basis to clarify learning problems and work on study skills. Provide class note to students who qualify for accessibility services. Other assistance might include: reviewing class material discussing the text predicting test questions formulating ideas for papers or working on solutions to problems. Tutoring is a supplement to classroom teaching. Tutors are not expected to know everything about the subject for which they tutor.
The Southwestern tutoring program is internationally certified by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA). Tutors may earn up to three certifications (Initial Advanced and Master) by completing tutor training and tutoring hours. All tutors who wish to work for Southwestern are required to complete tutor training.Interviews for this position will begin June 2026.
This position is open until filled. This position is for the 2026-2027 Academic Year (Sept 2026).
Tutoring/Supplemental Instruction (90% of Time)
High School Diploma or equivalent plus earned college credits.
Must have earned an A or B grade in desired tutoring subject and student must be recommended by an instructor.
Additionally tutors must maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA.
