POSITION SUMMARY

The Head Women's Basketball Coach is responsible for the administration, development, and advancement of a competitive NCAA Division III women's basketball program in alignment with the mission of the Franciscan University Athletic Department: forming disciples, developing leaders, and pursuing excellence. This role requires a strong commitment to the recruitment and formation of student-athletes who demonstrate both athletic ability and a dedication to personal, academic, and spiritual growth. The Head Coach provides comprehensive oversight of all aspects of the program, including but not limited to recruiting, player development, practice planning, game strategy, and day-to-day program administration. In addition, the Coach fosters the holistic development of student-athletes within a Christ-centered environment, supporting their formation as individuals of character, integrity, and faith.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Game day strategy / In game adjustments.
  2. Plan and execute effective and challenging practice and training programs, including team and specific position/individual athlete instruction.
  3. Promote the spiritual development of each student-athlete and a team culture in which the Catholic faith and Christian moral principles are integrated into daily activities and permeate the program.
  4. Promote the academic development of each student-athlete and a team culture of academic excellence.
  5. Comply with all relevant NCAA and PAC conference rules and regulations and communicate with prospective student-athletes in accordance with NCAA regulations.
  6. Coordinate with Athletic Staff and other University departments on logistical issues such as contest scheduling, team travel, venue scheduling/maintenance, and gameday preparation.

REQUIREMENTS

Must understand, support and embrace the mission of Franciscan University of Steubenville and possess the following: Technical Skills
  • Demonstrate effective coaching skill, knowledge of coaching tactics in the development of the student-athlete and the ability to promote a positive culture.
  • Implement effective daily practice plan and competition strategy.
Non-Technical Skills/Competencies
  • Technical/Functional Skills: Actively seeks ways to practice and continually improve the required skills or knowledge to build a successful basketball program.
  • Developing Self: Continually assesses one's skills and identifies area that can be further improved.
  • Decision Quality: Effectively blends analysis, experience, and intuition in the decision-making process.
  • Verbal Communication: Excellent Communicator.
Education and Work Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years of coaching experience, collegiate or high school head coaching (college preferred); former collegiate basketball player.
  • Knowledge of the D3 rules and regulations
  • Recruiting experience of prospective student athletes
Certifications & Licenses • CPR/First Aid Workplace Factors
  • Understanding of basic set up and tear down of relevant equipment.
  • Tracking of equipment/inventory.
  • Work with the Transportation Coordinator to coordinate travel and capability/willingness to drive a 12-passenger van.
  • Ability to function within a defined chain of command.
