The Texas AFL-CIO is a statewide labor federation and serves as the leading voice for working families in Texas. Our office is seeking an enthusiastic Digital Organizer to join our Communications team to build a bigger, broader, and more powerful labor movement in the state of Texas. This individual should be passionate about telling the stories of and connecting with working Texans.

What you’ll do: 

  • In coordination with the Communications Director, develop and implement digital organizing strategies to engage Texas AFL-CIO members, the public, and key stakeholders
  • Create high-quality written, visual, and multimedia content for the Texas AFL-CIO platforms
  • Maintain and grow the Texas AFL-CIO’s social media program
  • Oversee and update the Texas AFL-CIO website
  • Maintain and grow the email program, including managing the weekly newsletter
  • Oversee all Texas AFL-CIO digital actions, including petitions
  • Pitch content ideas to engage our audience
  • Produce videography and photography
  • Create graphic designs for social media and print products
  • Assist with message development for organizing, politics, and policy
  • Assist with communications trainings for affiliates and partners
  • Assist with event coordination as-needed
  • Expect some in-state travel to cover union events
  • Expect some irregular hours, including on weekends, depending on legislative session, elections, and union events

Required qualifications include:

  • 1-3 years of similar or related professional experience in digital communications
  • Excellent writing, verbal, and organizational skills 
  • Ability to be a self-starter in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to create clear, concise, and engaging content 
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively and prioritize work
  • A working knowledge of video editing and graphic design
  • Experience with some of the tools we use 
  • Demonstrated strong commitment to the goals and mission of the labor movement

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience in digital organizing and content creation in a campaign setting or labor movement organization
  • Knowledge of Texas politics and the Texas Legislature 
  • Knowledge of the labor movement
  • Knowledge of journalism standards and AP style
  • Spanish-language fluency 

The job is covered by the collective bargaining agreement in our workplace with OPEIU Local 277, and the salary for this position is $66,951.56/year with a competitive benefits package, including fully-covered health care, dental, vision, and pension, vacation and sick time, and other benefits.
