About Harris Group

Harris Group thrives on providing expert engineering for some of today's most complex challenges. We deliver multi-discipline services across a wide range of project types, and our successes are directly tied to high-quality collaboration across all offices, expertise, and backgrounds. Harris Group is a 100% Employee-Owned company with our eyes focused on the people in the company, the clients we serve, and the communities in which we live.

You're Not Just an Employee Here. You're an Owner.

Harris Group is 100% employee-owned through our Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), which means when you join Harris Group, you receive an ownership stake in the company.

As Harris Group grows and performs, so does the value of your ownership account. It's a wealth-building benefit that compounds alongside your career, something a standard 401(k) match simply can't replicate. You'll have clear line of sight to how your work, your projects, and your contributions drive the company's value--and by extension, your own.

What We Can Offer You
  • Hands-on experience across life sciences (biopharmaceutical), laboratory systems, and industrial manufacturing projects from day one
  • A multi-disciplinary team environment where you'll collaborate with engineers and architects across all disciplines, not just your own
  • Real ownership stake through Harris Group's Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)
  • Career growth with mentorship, clear advancement paths, and opportunities to take on increasing responsibility
  • Training & Education Assistance to support your professional development and licensure goals
  • Competitive benefits including health, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, 401(k) with company matching, PTO, and paid holidays
  • A passionate, collaborative team that is serious about doing great work and supporting the people who do it

The Role

Harris Group is seeking an Associate Chemical/Process Engineer to join our Life Sciences group in Lafayette, CA. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer to build hands-on experience on complex, meaningful projects in the biotech industry.

In this role, you will provide professional engineering expertise to industrial projects that positively impact both the community and the environment. You'll work on innovative designs for industrial facilities and contribute to diverse projects through development, detailed design, and construction support with a focus on life sciences (biopharmaceutical), laboratory HVAC and piping systems, and industrial manufacturing.

The ideal candidate brings an entrepreneurial mindset and genuine passion for chemical and process engineering someone who takes ownership of their work, communicates proactively with teammates, and is eager to grow in a multi-discipline environment.

The Responsibilities
  • Serve as a technical resource on designs and advance engineering theories, concepts, principles, and processes
  • Show a strong drive to work independently, manage project tasks, and meet deadlines with a proactive approach to communicating progress with your team.
  • Perform mechanical and process design, collaborating with the mechanical staff and coordinating with other disciplines
  • Prepare design calculations and documentation that support the project design basis
  • Prepare mechanical drawings through the use of designers or drafters, and develop specifications
  • Coordinate design with vendor-supplied equipment
  • Prepare equipment layouts and general arrangements

The Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering; up to 2 years of relevant experience preferred (new graduates welcome to apply)
  • Working knowledge of mechanical engineering techniques commonly used in industrial capital projects
  • Familiarity with process system design and equipment including pumps, fans, heat exchangers, cooling towers, boilers, chillers, conveyors, and air handlers
  • Ability to identify, interpret, and apply relevant codes and standards to engineering designs
  • Proficient with MS Office suite
  • Experience with AutoCAD, CADWorx, or Revit is a plus
  • Knowledge of Caesar or Autopipe pipe stress software is a plus
  • Knowledge of PIPE-FLO preferred
  • This role is based on-site at our Lafayette, CA location; daily on-site presence is expected
